A woman journalist from Thane district has submitted a written complaint demanding action against a woman police constable posted in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Thane Police. The allegation against the constable is that she has allegedly fallen into the trap of Binu Varghese alias ‘Black Crow,’ and has become involved in his unlawful activities.
On February 4, 2026 and February 6, 2026, the journalist filed complaints with the State Home Secretary, the Director General of Police, and the Police Commissioner, seeking action against the constable under the Bombay Police Act, 1951 and the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979. A copy of the complaint is reportedly with ABI (abinewz.com).
According to the complaint, the woman constable was previously posted at the Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell in Thane, where she came into contact with Binu Varghese alias ‘Black Crow.’ The complaint alleges that Binu Varghese alias ‘Black Crow’ made tall claims, stating that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, MP Shrikant Shinde, the Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners (including Avinash Ambure, Mahesh Patil, Prashant Kadam, etc.), and Assistant Commissioners were all “in his pocket.” He allegedly claimed he could get her promoted overnight from Constable to Police Sub-Inspector (PSI). The Constable reportedly fell for his claims, and the two began meeting frequently, growing increasingly close.
The complaint further alleges that the Constable was openly seen accompanying Binu Varghese alias ‘Black Crow’ to restaurants, beer bars, and hookah parlours, and attending parties with his associates. It also states that during visits to temples outside Thane, Binu Varghese alias ‘Black Crow’ allegedly sought VIP treatment from local police, introducing the constable as his wife.
In her complaint, the journalist has described Binu Varghese alias ‘Black Crow’ as being notorious in the city as a blackmailer and extortionist. She has argued that it is inappropriate for a woman police constable to maintain such close association with him. The journalist has demanded that the constable be transferred out of the EOW, suspended, subjected to disciplinary action, and face a departmental inquiry (DE).
Respecting women’s dignity, ABI (abinewz.com) has not published the names of either the woman journalist and the woman police constable.
